St. Lawrence Beach on Santa Maria Island is a peaceful, picturesque spot you have to check out. This gem of a beach is tucked away in the south of the island and offers the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure. Whether you're all about soaking up the sun, taking a swim, or just enjoying the view, this beach has something for everyone.

Getting there:

St. Lawrence Beach is located about 10 minutes from Vila do Porto, the island’s main town. Renting a car is highly recommended for getting around the island, as public transport options are limited and a car will give you the flexibility to explore other beautiful spots on the island.

Getting Around Santa Maria: While the island is small, a car rental will make it easy to get to the beach and visit other attractions nearby.

Details:

Located in a picturesque cove, St. Lawrence Beach has everything you’d want in a beach: crystal-clear waters, soft golden sand, and dramatic cliffs that provide a stunning backdrop. The beach has a secluded feel, making it an ideal spot if you’re looking to escape the crowds.

Generally, St. Lawrence Beach is safe for swimming, especially in the summer months when the weather is calm. However, like most beaches in the Azores, jellyfish can sometimes be spotted in the water. While they’re not usually a major issue here, it’s always a good idea to stay aware.

The water at St. Lawrence Beach is generally calm, but always be mindful of changing sea conditions.

Tips

Best time to visit: The best time to visit St. Lawrence Beach is between May and September when the weather is warm and perfect for beach days. The Azores generally have mild temperatures year-round, but this period offers the best chance for sun and swimming.

What to bring: Pack the usual sunscreen, a hat, a towel, and maybe some beach shoes if you plan on walking along the rocky parts of the shore.

Dining nearby 🍹

You’ll want to check out Ponta Negra Restaurante e Bar de Praia, a nearby beachfront restaurant that’s perfect for a post-swim bite or a laid-back lunch. It’s one of the best spots to enjoy both the food and the view, offering a casual and welcoming atmosphere right by the water.
