Mt. Mitake is my go-to escape for quick day trips or even overnight stays from Tokyo. You can take a ropeway then walk for 20 minutes to get here which sits at the summit of Mt. Mitake.
I always make sure to visit before heading out to hike the surrounding mountains.

The shrine itself is perched atop a 929-meter-high mountain, offering not just spiritual solace but also breathtaking views. The shrine is steeped in history and legend, with stories about a wolf guardian deity that add an intriguing layer to the experience.

For me, visiting Musashi Mitake Shrine before venturing into the other mountains in the area feels like a grounding ritual. It's like tapping into the ancient spiritual energy of the place before immersing myself in the natural beauty of the surrounding trails. Whether you're into mountain worship, ancient Japanese history, or just need a break from city life, this shrine and the whole Mt. Mitake area are definitely worth exploring.
