Hatonosu Canyon is a picturesque spot perfect for a day trip in nature especially on a hot Tokyo day. You can enjoy easy hiking trails along the gorge, stunning views of the valley, fishing activities, and relaxing onsen hot baths. It's a great escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Actually this area is famous for cliff jumping as there are rocks betwen 3m to 15m where you can jump into the water.

There are beginner friendly trails along the river to Okutama.

Accessibility:

Hatonosu Canyon is easily accessible by train or bus, with convenient stops just minutes away. From Tokyo Station, you can reach the gorge in about 2 hours by car or train, and a bit longer if taking the bus route via Shiraiwa Station.

By Car:

  • From Tokyo Station, take the Metropolitan Expressway Inner Circular Route and Shuto Expressway Route 4 Shinjuku Line, then access the city via Route 45. The journey takes about 2 hours.

By Train:

  • The nearest train station is Hatonosu Station on the JR Ome Line.

  • From Tokyo Station, take the JR Chuo-Ome Line (Ome Rapid) to Ome Station, then transfer to the JR Ome Line to reach Hatonosu Station. The journey takes about 2 hours. From Hatonosu Station, it's a 3-minute walk to Hatonosu Canyon.

By Bus:

  • From Shiraiwa Station on the JR Ome Line, take a Nishitokyo Bus to the "Hatonosu" stop. From there, it's a 4-minute walk to Hatonosu Canyon.
