Koma Sando is a charming and historic shopping street connecting the Oyama Cable Bus Stop to the base of Mt. Oyama. The walk takes about 15 minutes and offers a delightful blend of culture, local delicacies, and scenic mountain views. There are also accommodations where you can stay the night should you want to hike Oyama in the early morning the next day.

What to See and Do:

  1. Traditional Shops and Local Cuisine
Along the path, you’ll find nearly 20 shops and eateries offering handmade souvenirs, local specialties like tofu and soba, and sweet treats such as the famous kaki shigure (persimmon confection). Don’t miss trying the Oyama koma (traditional spinning tops), a beloved local craft.

  2. Koma Tiles on the Steps
The path includes 362 steps with 27 landings, decorated with charming koma tiles that add to the nostalgic atmosphere.

  3. Local Delicacies at Mountain Inns
Stop by "Yamano Yado Negishi" for tofu dishes and traditional mountain cuisine, or plan your visit around lunchtime to enjoy the area's famous soba and tofu restaurants.

  4. Unique Souvenirs
At shops like Oyama Uruwashi Honpo, you’ll find local specialties such as konnyaku jelly and unique herbal bath products like "Kotobuki-yu," a blend designed for relaxation and health.
