Hiking Season and Trail Details
Best Time to Hike: May to October. Spring and autumn are particularly scenic, with wildflowers and vibrant foliage.

Short Trail (Plank Route): 1.6 km round trip
Long Trail (Nature Route): 3 km round trip
Elevation Gain: Minimal on both trails
Duration:
Short Trail: About 30-45 minutes
Long Trail: About 90 minutes to 2 hours
Bear Safety: Shiretoko is a high-bear area. Bear encounters are rare on the boardwalk but possible on the long trail. To hike the Long Trail during the bear season (usually May to July), a brief bear safety orientation is required.
