Hike
3-4h
This is my favorite peak in the Central Alps, and it's a perfect stop on the way to Kiso-Komagatake. While many casual hikers skip this summit, I highly recommend giving it a try if you’re up for a bit of scrambling and chain sections. After stepping off the ropeway, head left behind the shrine instead of following the usual crowds to the right. This alternate route leads you directly up to the peak, offering a more adventurous and rewarding path to the summit.
Trailhead:
Senjojiki Cirque, Chuo Alps (accessible by the Komagane Ropeway).
Hike Details:
Distance: Approx. 4.5 km (round trip)
Duration: 4-5 hours
Incline: Approx. 500m elevation gain
Difficulty: Moderate – Some steep and rocky sections near the summit.
Hike Overview:
The hike to Mt. Hoken (2,931m) from Senjojiki Cirque is a moderate yet rewarding climb, offering spectacular views of the Central Alps. Starting from the cirque, the trail takes you through rugged alpine terrain, leading to rocky areas as you approach the summit. Some parts require scrambling, making it a bit more challenging, but the panoramic vistas of the surrounding peaks are well worth the effort.
Accommodation:
Hotel Senjojiki: Located at the top of the ropeway for a convenient early start.
Hoken Sanso: Business period Early April to early November
