Houtou is a traditional Yamanashi dish made with thick, chewy wheat noodles in a hearty miso-based broth, filled with seasonal vegetables, making it a perfect post-hike meal due to its nutrition and comforting warmth. The restaurant offers a cozy, authentic atmosphere with friendly staff, serving delicious local noodles, including a vegetarian option. It’s mostly visited by Japanese locals, adding to the genuine experience, and they sometimes sell local produce and souvenirs. You can also ask for vegetarian option as Hoto was originally vegetarian.
If you're in Yamanashi, I highly recommend trying it at Hoto Funari Fruits Line, my favorite spot for this dish.
