Lake Hibara, the largest lake in Urabandai and formed by the eruption of Mount Bandai, is truly stunning. We drove past it and saw boats gliding across the lake, surrounded by brilliant autumn foliage. In winter, the lake freezes over, making it a popular spot for Wakasagi ice fishing. The lake offers a plethora of activities year-round—from camping, bass fishing, and pleasure boat rides in warmer months to breathtaking views of cherry blossoms in spring, lush greenery in summer, and snowy scenes in winter.
For a more immersive experience, take the Lake Hibara Trail—a scenic 90-minute walk through the forest with views of both Lake Hibara and Mount Bandai, including a charming suspension bridge.
■By bus
Hop on a Bandai Toto local bus and get off at the “Nagamine-Funatsuki” bus stop.
■By car
Use the Urabandai Sight Station parking lot or park your car at the parking space near the Lake Hibara Lakeside Trail Entrance.
The roads around the lake also make for a picturesque drive, and the “Michi-no-Eki Urabandai” roadside station is a convenient stop to enjoy local products and a great view of the lake. You can even hop on the retro-style sightseeing bus, “Mori no Kuma-san,” to tour the area and soak up the natural beauty.
