A campsite with an ocean view on a small peninsula by Saroma Lake in Hokkaido. The site is free, and you can even camp with a van, but a word of advice: bring plenty of bug repellent. We got swarmed by mosquitoes while waiting for the sunset!
The vibe here is incredibly laid-back, almost like being on an uninhabited island. The campsite has spacious lawn areas, clean cooking facilities, and modern restrooms with touch-switch water. There’s also a coin-operated shower at the administration office, which is a nice touch. The views are stunning, but those mosquitoes are relentless! Despite that, it’s a fantastic spot for a weekend getaway or a holiday camping trip.
