A shopping street where you can witness Ainu culture. Actually the entire area around Lake Akan seems to be dedicated to passing down the Ainu culture. When we were there, we saw night time illuminations in the forest where they had a play similar to what you would see at Team Lab but in nature in a forest.
Ainu Kotan in Hokkaido is the largest Ainu village in Japan, offering a unique glimpse into the indigenous Ainu culture. Visitors can experience traditional Ainu dances, art, and cuisine that have been passed down through generations. The village is a hub of craftsmanship, with hand-carved woodwork and intricate embroideries on display. Strolling through the charming Lake Akan Onsen Street, visitors can also enjoy hot springs, local delicacies like Lake Akan lobsters, and souvenir shopping. Don't miss the chance to immerse yourself in the rich history and traditions of the Ainu people at this cultural gem in Hokkaido!
