To this day, I still think about the taste of that perfectly grilled, smoky chicken. It wasn’t just good—it was hands down the best charcoal BBQ chicken I’ve ever had, and trust me, I’ve tried a lot!
The place is super cozy, tucked away in the town of Takachiho, which is already worth a visit on its own. It’s just five minutes from Takachiho Gorge, so after a day of exploring, I found myself at this humble restaurant with the scent of charcoal filling the air. The staff didn’t speak much English, but that didn’t matter—everyone was so welcoming. The menu was straightforward, and every bite of chicken was a revelation. The flavors were incredible—crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, with that unmistakable charcoal taste.
What made it even cooler was that you could go auto camping nearby, which I didn’t expect at all. It’s a whole experience if you’re up for it—grab some amazing food and then camp out in this beautiful area. Their website is only in Japanese, which could be tricky, but Google Translate did the job, and booking online was easy enough.
If you’re anywhere near Takachiho, do yourself a favor and stop by. It’s not just a meal—it’s a total experience in one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been.
