We stayed at Peepolo Norikura when we hiked Mt. Norikura and couldn’t get a spot in the mountain hut—and I’m so glad we did. This place is perfect for couples, especially since you can reserve a private bath. If you have tattoos, no worries here! You can still fully enjoy the onsen experience.
The food was a highlight, with hearty, delicious dishes featuring locally caught freshwater fish and other mountain-inspired flavors. The ryokan itself is super cozy, with just 15 rooms, making it feel intimate and peaceful. The staff were incredibly welcoming, and the whole place had a clean, well-kept vibe that really adds to the comfort.
