Magome-juku, located in Gifu Prefecture, Japan, was the forty-third station on the Nakasendō highway connecting Edo and Kyoto during the Edo period. This post town, nestled in a mountainous region, served as a stopping place for travelers and merchants. Today, Magome-juku has been restored to its Edo period charm, with a row of traditional houses along the old post road. There's a pleasant walk between Magome-juku and Tsumago-juku, another restored post town, through forests and past waterfalls. It's a popular tourist destination offering a glimpse into Japan's historical past.

Tip: if you are considering the popular Nakasendo Trail and you only have a limited time, just do this section. While it is very touristy, it is super pretty and popular for a reason. Also, see if you can spot the store that has cats at the cash register :)
