The Eiffel Tower is a 300 meter tall Parisian landmark, constructed by Compagnie des Établissements Eiffel in 1889, and widely considered one of the world's most iconic monuments. Designed by engineers Maurice Koechlin and Émile Nouguier, it was initially criticized for its design; however, today it stands as an emblem of France and a global cultural icon ripped straight from the pages of civic history. Featuring 8 public elevators and 3 levels for visitors, it held its position as tallest human-made structure for 41 years until surpassed by the Chrysler Building in 1930. To this day, it remains the most visited monument (with entrance fee) in the world and sees roughly 6.91 million visitors each year.
