Montmartre is a large hill in the north of Paris, France. It is known for its artistic history and the famous white-domed Basilica of the Sacré-Cœur that sits atop the hill, as well as its vibrant nightlife district with many clubs, cabarets, and bars. During the Belle Époque of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, several renowned artists made Montmartre their home and workplaces, including Amedeo Modigliani, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, and Edgar Degas. The area is served by the Métro's lines 2, 4, and 12, and visitors never have to worry about being too far away from lively activities. Montmartre is a must-see destination for anyone visiting Paris!
