This large cave system is a popular attraction near Interlaken, where according to legend, St. Beatus, the first apostle to Switzerland, fought a dragon.

For an entrance fee, you can wander through about 1 km of the caves on well-lit walkways, enjoying geological formations, including stalactites and stalagmites, as well as an underground river rushing through the caves.

They offer guided tours, but it's not really necessary as the included digital guide is pretty good.

Outside the caves, there is a casual family-friendly restaurant and dragon-themed playground with a picnic area, a nice place for kids to run off some energy.

I’d recommend combining this with a visit to Niederhorn, a viewpoint on the mountain above the caves. The caves are a good option for cloudy days and for hot days when you need to get out of the sun.

How to get there

The caves are on Seestrasse, just northwest of Interlaken, no specific address. There is metered parking near the caves entrance - see parking on map. By bus, get off at stop Beatushöhlen.

The caves are open year round. After heavy rain, they may close temporarily for safety reasons.
