This park has a little bit of everything - from waterfalls to sweeping mountain views.
There are two distinct areas to explore at Minnewaska State Park: (1) Sam's Point area and (2) the Lake Minnewaska area.
The Sam's Point area is known for its unique geological features, including panoramic views from the Shawangunk Ridge and the stunning Ice Caves, where ice persists well into the summer months.
The Lake Minnewaska area is where you'll find the picturesque Lake Minnewaska, surrounded by lush forests and opportunities for swimming, picnicking, and boating.
Both areas feature a network of well-maintained trails. Here are some of the most popular hikes:
Awosting Falls - Easy hike to a waterfall; 1.1 miles RT
Gertrudes Nose - Moderate hike to panoramic cliff-top views; 7.6 mile loop
Beacon Hill Footpath - Moderate hike to Beacon Hill summit; 4.6 mile loop
Lake Minnewaska Loop - Leisurely hike with lakeside views and places to swim; 1. 8 mile loop
Sam's Point and Verkeerderkill Falls Trail - Moderate hike to unique geological formations, a waterfall, and Ice Caves; 8.6 mile loop

There is a vehicle use fee for parking, which is typically $10 per car.
Reservations for Sam's Point Area:
Parking reservations are required on weekends and holidays from April 15 through November 15. Reservations can be made online http://newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com or by calling 1-800-456-2267
