Koyasan is an impressive and enchanting World Heritage Site, located in Wakayama Prefecture. It is a grand center of esoteric Buddhism, home to over 1,200 years of history, and renowned for its spiritual atmosphere. Its Daimon Gate stands at 25 meters tall, leading visitors to explore the complex grounds that feature more than 100 temples. Visitors can experience a unique retreat by staying at one of the 52 temple lodgings, savor delicious Buddhist cuisine, or take part in spiritual activities such as meditation and sutra copying. Other popular attractions include the Kongobuji Temple, Okunoin Temple, and Shukubo Temple. A visit to Koyasan is an ideal way to immerse oneself in Japanese history and culture, while calming body and soul.
