Yanagidani Kannon (Yokokuji Temple) is a scenic temple located in Nagaokakyo City, Kyoto Prefecture. The main attraction of the temple is the eleven-faced, thousand-armed statue of the bodhisattva Kannon which overlooks the nearby Otokuni Bamboo Grove. Inside the temple building, guests can enjoy the view of Jodo-en Garden and visit Kamishoin Study, the designated study room for elites during the Meiji era. There's plenty of things to do at the temple such as taking a stroll through the Yokokuji Hydrangea Path, spotting over 4,500 hydrangea plants in bloom, or admiring the deep red carpet and autumn foliage in the Kamishoin Study, open only on the 17th of each month. It has also been believed that holy water connected to the famous Buddhist monk Kukai can be found, which can be used to heal eye diseases. Come check out the historic Yanagidani Kannon!
