Mangetsu-ji Temple's Ukimido, which literally translates to 'floating hall' in Japanese, is an iconic traditional landscape in one of Otsu City's eight famous views of Omi. A beacon of peace sitting atop Lake Biwa, the mini temple houses a thousand gilded Amida Buddhas and breathes life into the serene skyline with its unique architecture. The floating pavilion was re-built in 1937 and overlooks the beautiful emerald lake. Tourists can enjoy the breathtaking view of the mountains while admiring the intricate paintings decorating the ceiling that depict each flower in full bloom throughout all seasons. Whether visiting for afternoon tea or simply to admire the scenery, a stop at Ukimido promises peace of mind and time well spent.
