Kiyomizu-dera is a famous temple in Kyoto and a World Heritage Site located on the slopes of Mt. Otowayama. It boasts over 30 buildings, monuments and National Treasures spread throughout its 130,000 square meters of grounds. Its main attraction is the iconic three-storied pagoda made with vibrant vermillion lacquerwork and a Dainichi Nyorai Buddha enshrined inside. Other must-see spots include the mysterious Tainai Meguri at Zuigudo Temple, the Kiyomizu Stage famously built without using a single nail, the Inner Sanctuary with a stunning view of cherry blossoms and fall leaves, and the Otowa Waterfall from which the temple takes its name. A visit to Kiyomizu-dera makes for an unforgettable experience full of symbolism, beauty, and divinity.
