Byōdō-in is a Buddhist temple located in Uji, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan, known for its iconic Phoenix Hall. Originally built as a villa in 998, it was transformed into a temple in 1052 by Fujiwara no Yorimichi. The highlight of the temple is the Phoenix Hall, completed in 1053, featuring a stunning Amida Buddha statue created by Jōchō. Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site, Byōdō-in showcases a blend of Chinese and Japanese architectural styles and is a must-visit for history buffs and architecture enthusiasts alike.
