Itsukushima Jinja is a stunning Shinto shrine located on the island of Itsukushima, off the coast of Japan's Hiroshima Prefecture. This incredible site captivates visitors with its beautiful "floating" torii gate, which stands in stark contrast to the tranquil waters of Matsushima Bay. The shrine complex itself houses two main buildings – the Honsha and the Sessha Marodo-jinja -as well as 17 other structures that maintain its distinctive style. Itsukushima Jinja was originally dubbed 'island dedicated to the gods' by Empress Suiko and was later renovated and developed by Taira no Kiyomori and Mori Motonari. This stunning shrine is also home to many national treasures including the Heike Nōkyōs and the sacred peak of Mount Misen. In addition to being a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site, it continues to attract visitors from all around the world who come to marvel at its remarkable beauty.
