The hike to Glomtinden in the Lofoten Islands is a spectacular and moderately challenging adventure, ideal for nature enthusiasts and seasoned hikers alike. Located near Kabelvåg, the Glomtinden summit offers breathtaking views of the surrounding Lofoten peaks and the vast North Sea. The hike primarily follows the west ascent, providing a varied route with multiple highlights.
Starting Point: The free but very small parking lot for this hike is located right off the E10. If you're coming from the west, you'll pass Rørvikstranda (a beach worth visiting) before turning left into the hidden parking area about 1 km further down the road. For those approaching from the east, starting in the direction of Kabelvåg, drive 10 km straight along the E10 towards Rørvikstranda and turn right into the small parking lot.
Route: The trail starts as a broad, easy path that gradually transitions into steeper, more rugged terrain. While the trail is not consistently marked, it remains easy to follow, particularly for those accustomed to navigating uneven and rocky trails. A major highlight of the hike is the stunning view of the surrounding peaks, Kabelvåg, and nearby islands. Glomtinden offers an incredible panoramic perspective that becomes increasingly rewarding as you ascend. The final 200 meters of elevation to the summit are the most demanding. These sections include steeper grades, rocky and slippery areas (especially in wet conditions), and narrow climbs that require careful footing. Despite the challenge, the summit rewards every effort.
