Gimmelwald is a charming little village nestled high in the Swiss Alps. With its picturesque setting and cozy atmosphere, it's the perfect place for a relaxing stroll. We love taking photos of the traditional houses beautifully adorned with colorful flowers.

You should definitely visit the self-service "Honesty Shop" near the cable car (see on map) that sells local products and you drop cash in their box. Other farms in the village also have self-service fridges with cheese and preserved meats for sale.

Where to eat

We like to have coffee and cake at the Mountain Hostel (see on map), which has an impressive view across the valley.

We're also always happy at Hotel Pension Gimmelwald, drinking their Schwarz Mönch beer on their lovely terrace.

For kids

There is a little playground with a view just above the Gimmelwald cable car station. See on map.

Hikes from here

If you love to hike, several wonderful trails leave from the village, like the challenging Tänzbödeli hike or Via Alpina Stage 12. Or a more moderate wander up the Sefinental river valley.

How to get there

If you want to go to Gimmelwald directly, take a bus to Stechelberg, then cable car up to Gimmelwald. The cable car is relatively inexpensive and fully covered by the Swiss Travel Pass, Bernese Oberland Pass, GA and Saver Day Pass.

We typically visit Gimmelwald after other activities in nearby Mürren (like the Allmendhubel playground, mountain view trail, or Schilthorn viewpoint). In this case, you can ride a cable car from Mürren to Gimmelwald or walk on the road that connects these alpine villages.
