If you have the Swiss Travel Pass, your entire journey starting from the cruise to the cogwheel train is completely covered! Otherwise, if you only have the Half-Fare Card, get the Saver Day Pass for 49CHF on the SBB app and you are covered for the full day.
Getting to Mount Rigi is easy. From Lucerne, you can take a scenic 40-minute boat ride across Lake Lucerne to the small town of Vitznau. Departure times are: 09:12/10:12/12:00/14:12/15:12. From there, you can hop on the cogwheel train that will take you up to the summit of Mount Rigi. The train ride itself is an experience, with breathtaking views of the mountains and the surrounding countryside.
Once you arrive at the top, you'll be greeted with stunning views of the Swiss Alps and Lake Lucerne. On a clear day, you can see as far as Germany and France! There are plenty of hiking trails to explore, ranging from easy walks to more challenging treks. You can also take a leisurely walk along the panoramic trail, which offers breathtaking views at every turn.
One of the highlights of Mount Rigi is the sunrise or sunset experience. Imagine watching the sun rise or set over the majestic Swiss Alps - it's truly a sight to behold. If you're feeling brave, you can even hike up to the summit early in the morning to catch the sunrise. It's a challenging hike, but the reward is well worth it.
For those traveling with kids, there are plenty of family-friendly activities to do at Mount Rigi. Take a ride on the toboggan run (only in winter season), There's even a playground and mini-golf course for the little ones to enjoy!
After enjoying the spectacular 360-degree view on the top, you can walk, which takes approx. 35 mins or take the train at every hour xx:00 descend to Rigi Kaltbad Mineral Baths & Spa. this is where the spa is (no reservation and time restrictions).
From Kaltbad, you can take the cable car at 16:10/16:40/17:10/17:40 to Weggis, or back to Vitznau at 15:15/16:15/17:15 to connect the boat return to Lucerne.
