Miradouro da Terra Chã is a breathtaking viewpoint located on the eastern side of Porto Santo, near the iconic Pico Branco. Offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains, dramatic cliffs, and the vast Atlantic Ocean, this spot is a favorite among locals and Madeirans who often make a pilgrimage here to celebrate special occasions, enjoy nature, and even have a barbecue at the designated area near the viewpoint.

The name “Terra Chã,” meaning “flat land,” reflects the relatively level area at the top, but reaching this viewpoint requires effort. Accessible via the PR1 Vereda do Pico Branco e Terra Chã, the hike is 2.7 kilometers one way and moderately challenging. Starting from the parking area near Pico Branco, the trail steadily climbs uphill through varied landscapes, from rocky paths to lush greenery. Proper hiking shoes and water are essential for the journey.

Once at the top, the peaceful atmosphere and panoramic views make it well worth the effort. You’ll be treated to stunning contrasts between Porto Santo’s golden beaches in the distance and the rugged eastern peaks, all surrounded by the endless blue of the ocean.

The best time to visit is during the morning or late afternoon when the light enhances the vibrant colors of the scenery. For those seeking both adventure and tranquility, Miradouro da Terra Chã is a must-visit destination and a true highlight of Porto Santo.
