The Alpine Spa at Bürgenstock Hotel, set on a mountain overlooking Lake Lucerne, offers one of the most luxurious spa experiences in Switzerland.

They are famous for their outdoor heated infinity pool overlooking the lake, a wonderful place to relax and soak in the views. They also have an indoor pool with views of the lake through large panorama windows, lined with lounge chairs, a nice place to swim laps or just relax.

  • Note that they have specific "splash and flash" times where families and photography are allowed, 9:00-12:00 and 17:00-19:00.

For a refreshing dip, we like their hot (35C) and cold (16C) plunge pools and eco pool that gets down to 10-14C. For maximum relaxing, we love the salted floating pool with soft lighting.

They have multiple sauna and steam bath rooms, including a Hammam "alpine steambath." These are "textile-free" zones and only for adults over age 16.

Food & drink

They have a small (free) snack area inside the spa with tea, nuts and fruit. But unfortunately, they do not have a cafe inside the spa. So if you want to eat, you have to get dressed and exit the spa to visit one of the Bürgenstock restaurants, then return to the spa.

The restaurants are excellent (we like Spice), but it's a little annoying to interrupt your relaxation mode and do your hair and makeup to visit the restaurant, only to return to the spa soon after and get back in the pool.

Tickets

You can get a 4-hour or Full Day pass for Alpine Spa, which includes access to the spa facilities plus your arrival tickets from Lucerne, including the boat and funicular. Bathrobe, slippers, and towels are provided.

Spa treatments are extra and should be booked in advance. You can book packages that include vouchers for spa treaments.

See current spa offers.

Children

Children are allowed in the pool area during the "splash and flash" hours. But honestly, this is not the best option for children. Better to visit the Morschach Swiss Family Holiday Park, which has waterslides and other amusements.

How to get there

From Lucerne, the nicest way to get there is by boat and funicular - ticket included with your spa entrance fee.

From the Lucerne ferry dock, you ride a boat to the base of the mountain: Kehrsiten-Bürgenstock stop. Then a funicular train up to the hotel & spa: Bürgenstock Resort stop.

This connection runs about once an hour and takes about 40 mins travel time. Check current schedule on SBB.ch.

By car: you can directly to the Bürgenstock hotel parking (see on Google Maps), about 20 mins from Lucerne.
