This version of the Rigi Panorama trail starts at the top of Rigi Kulm and traverses the mountain, ending at the Rigi Scheidegg peak at the far side of the range.

Along the way, you'll enjoying beautiful views of Lake Lucerne and surrounding mountains, as well as alpine meadows and forests. The hike includes the Rigi First Cliff Walk, a short section of the trail carved into the side of a cliff wall.

The trail ends at Rigi Scheidegg, which has restaurants, a big playground with trampolines, and cable car to take you down the mountain.

Note: This excursion starts and ends in Arth-Goldau, the northeast side of the Rigi mountain. If you need to start & end in Vitznau, do the shorter Panorama trail that ends at Rigi Kaltbad-First.

Trail info

Trail: moderate • 3 hours • 8.2 km one way • 230m up, 320m down
See trail map.

The path is a wide gravel path, obstacle-free, and suitable for strollers with all-terrain wheels. However, strollers are not allowed on the cliff walk; instead use the detour that continues on the service road on the other side of the park.

How to get there

To reach this trail, you ride the Rigi mountain train from Arth-Goldau to Rigi Kulm (not Vitznau). The trail ends at the Rigi Scheidegg, where you ride a cable car down to Kräbel, then Rigi mountain train back to Arth-Goldau.

By public transport:

Take a train to Arth-Goldau. Exit the train and follow signs to Rigibahn, a short walk from the regular train station. At the end of the trail, ride the cable car down to Kräbel. Then transfer to the Rigi mountain train headed down to Arth-Goldau. The train doesn't come very often, so check the timetable, so you aren't waiting a long time at Kräbel.

By car:

It's most efficient to park at the Kräbel cable car station, where you will end your day. The Rigi mountain train picks up directly next to the cable car station, headed up the mountain to Rigi Kulm. Leaves about once an hour (check timetables). Note that you have to drive up a narrow winding road for a few minutes.

If that's not for you or that parking lot is full, you can alternatively park at the larger parking lot near the freeway exit (see on map). This parking lot is near the Goldau A4 station for the Rigi train. Rememer that after your hike, you'll have to wait at Kräbel for the Rigi mountain train to take you down to the parking lot.

Tickets

You'll need a Rigi day pass, which covers the Rigi mountain train and cable car at Rigi Scheidegg.

Rigi mountain transport is free with the Swiss Travel Pass, Tell Pass, GA, and Saver Day Pass. Discount with other Swiss travel cards. Kids under 16 and dogs ride free on Rigi mountain transport.
