We love this exciting mountain hike at the Flumserberg resort near Zurich. The winds up and around big peaks, through flower-filled meadows, along a ridge, by alpine lakes, and ends at a fun mountain coaster.

I have a long and short version of this trail. The long one is perfect if you want a fitness challenge and a full day hike. With kids, we always do the shorter 4 Peak Tour, which skips the harder climbs in the middle of the trail. It's still gorgeous and we don't feel like we're missing out.

It's very easy to reach this hike from Zurich, with the train dropping directly at the gondola station.

Trail Info

Both versions start at the top of the Maschgekamm gondola and end at the Floomzer coaster. You can ride the coaster down (extra fee) or hike down Tannenboden (adding about 40 mins to your hike).

When to go

You can usually do this trail from late June through mid October. It's bright green with lots of flowers usually from July through early August.

We particularly like this trail in fall (late September - mid October), when the blueberry bushes turn bright red and grass turns golden.

Tickets

For this trail, you'll need a one way ticket on the Tannenboden-Maschgenkamm gondola.

In 2024, this ticket costs CHF 26/adult, CHF 13/youth (age 12-18). Children under 12 accompanied by an adult ride free. Discount with Swiss Travel Pass, Swiss Half Fare Card, GA, and other Swiss travel passes. See current Flumserberg prices.

The trail ends at the Floomzer mountain coaster, which costs CHF 15/adult. Or you can just walk down for free.

How to get there

This trail is located at Flumserberg, a mountain resort in Eastern Switzerland, about 1 hour southeast of Zürich. This trail is accessed from the Tannenboden-Maschgenkamm gondola.

By car

Drive to Tannenboden and park in the metered lot next to the gondola station. It’s a well-maintained two lane road but lots of winding curves.

By public transport

Take a train to Unterterzen. The cable car station is conveniently adjacent to the train station. Take the gondola up to Tannenboden, then a short walk through the parking to the Maschgenkamm gondola.
