The Lauterbrunnen-Grütschalp cable car is our favorite way to travel to Mürren. It also happens to be the most affordable cable cars in the region, great for those on a budget.
You'll find the cable car directly across the street from the Lauterbrunnen train station (see on Google maps). The Grütschalp cable car fits 100 people, runs every 15 mins, and takes only 4 mins to reach the top.
💡Tip: To get the best views during the ride, we like to stand next to the windows facing the Lauterbrunnen valley (the left side as you face the mountain).
When you exit the cable car at Grütschalp, you have a few options.
Transfer to the Mürren BLM mountain train, which continues your journey across the mountain to Mürren in 12 mins.
Hike to Mürren on the easy obstacle-free Winteregg trail (1h30) or more difficult Mürren Mountain View Trail (2h), both ending in Mürren.
If you want to stay at Grütschalp, there is a bistro with an outdoor terrace, a nice place to enjoy a coffee and snack with a view.
💡Tip: If only some of your group wants to hike, send the non-hikers on the train while the others hike to Mürren on the Mountain View trail. Meet up at Allmendhubel (end of trail) or Mürren for lunch.
This is one of the most affordable mountain journeys, especially compared to others in this region. A round trip ticket on Grütshalp cable car costs about CHF 19/adult. If you add on the mountain train to Mürren, it's only a few francs more.
Since this journey is part of the public transport network, it is included in the Swiss Travel Pass, SBB GA, and SBB Day Passes. It's also free with the Berner Oberland Pass.
Recommended for: Great for budget travelers and those with limited mobility.
