This trail traverses right underneath the famous north face of the Eiger, where over 60 climbers have died trying to reach the peak.
Unlike the rock face, this Eiger trail is safe for casual hikers and families. The alpine trail is mostly easy walking, with a few switchbacks and rocky sections to navigate.
It has fantastic views of the Grindelwald valley and surrounding peaks. It’s one of our favorites!
Trail: moderate • 2h30 • 6km • 60m up, 750m down

Go to the Grindelwald Terminal train station. Ride the Eiger Express cable car up to the Eigergletscher station. Exit the cable car station to the large outdoor terrace overlooking the glacier. Walk to the end of this terrace and follow the yellow trail signs to the Eiger Trail, direction Alpiglen.
For this hike, you’ll need a one way ticket on the Eiger Express from Grindelwald Terminal to Eigergletscher. At the end of the hike, you'll need a one way ticket for the mountain train from Alpligen to Grindelwald Grund.
Just tell the ticket agent that you want to do the Eiger trail and show them on the map where you want to go. They will sell you the right ticket.
