The “Amden Höhenweg” is a pretty trail above the Amden village, passing through alpine meadows, dense forests and a moor.
Trail: moderate • 2h30 • 8.5 km • 280m up & down • see trail map
Conditions: www.amden-weesen.ch • webcams • weather
Open: usually snow-free early April thru mid November
Because of the relative low elevation and sunny exposure, this is a good choice for spring and late fall when other mountain areas are closed.
Some of the trail follows paved and dirt service roads, which isn’t my favorite. But the views are so lovely, with lots of dramatic peaks in view and lots of wildflowers in summer, that I’m willing to forgive this fault.

How to get there
This trail is located in Amden, a mountain village southeast of Zürich. This is a one way trail, between Amden and Arvenbüel. You can start on either end.
We typically start in Arvenbüel and end at the top of the Amden chairlift, riding down the mountain. You can purchase the chairlift ticket after you ride down.
If you want to hike longer, you can hike down the section skipped by the chair lift.
By public transport: Take a train to Ziegelbrücke, then bus 650 to the Arvenbüel, Arven stop. The hike ends at the Amden, Dorf stop, where you can catch the bus back to home.
By car: we suggest parking in the lot near the Amden chairlift. Then take the bus to Arvenbüel to start the hike. Then you end back at your car. Check bus schedule on SBB.ch.
