Tenerife’s Roque de Taborno Hike is a must-do for hikers looking for an adventure on the Spanish island. Starting near the small town of Taborno, the 4 km circuit trail takes adventurers around a 50 m tall basalt pillar with stunning views of the wild coast and steep mountains along the way. The route is dotted with tiny coastal hamlets in misty forests, ancient caves, noteworthy cacti, and colorful churches. The landscape features thrilling exposure as it turns a corner or ascends ridges, but the wide trails are not overly difficult and suitable for all skill levels. Stop at the halfway point for a picturesque lunch with views that stretch up and down the north coast of Tenerife.
I have to say that the path to Roque Taborno is one of the best hiking trails I have done in Tenerife so far. What I liked the most was the altitude the trail is located at and with a gloomy weather we had at the beginning, it was even more interesting!
TIPS: • The trip is easy - it took us less than 3 hours with breaks and taking pictures (it doesn't take the whole day)
• Don't forget water and some snacks (However, we did pass a couple of restaurants in the village of Taborno where you have a chance to sample some traditional Canarian dishes).
• I recommend using sunscreen (even if it's cloudy here, it tans) and of course headgear and trekking boots.
