The Barranco del Infierno, otherwise known as the Hell's Gorge in English, is a ravine located in the town of Adeje in Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain. It provides one of the best eco-tours around with stunning views and landscapes. A popular hiking trail passes through the ravine all the way to the highest waterfall on Tenerife. Visitors can explore numerous caves which have been home to many aboriginal Guanches and ancient engravings.
The hike takes approximately three and a half hours—with a 6.5 km route—however the experience is sure to linger long after. Safety measures have been implemented due to an accident in 2009, such as compulsory wearing of helmets when taking the trail. Despite this, it remains one of the most rewarding and memorable adventure activities Tenerife has to offer.
TIPS:
• Be sure to make your reservation for exact day and time on the website: https://www.barrancodelinfierno.es/reservar. They also inform you there if the gorge is open since it can be closed some days for meteorological reasons.
• Start the trail the earliest possible in the morning because the gorge gets hot during the day.
• Be sure to bring water with you and good trekking shoes.
