Museum Island in Berlin is one of the most important museum sites in Europe and a popular tourist attraction. It consists of five different museums, all part of the Berlin State Museums: the Altes Museum, the Neues Museum, the Alte Nationalgalerie, the Bode-Museum, and the Pergamonmuseum. These are all contained within the beautiful Spree Island, located in the heart of the city. Visitors to Museum Island can explore the architectural and cultural developments of museums from the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as marvel at internationally significant collections such as Ancient Rome's Ishtar Gate of Babylon and Priam's Treasure, excavated by Heinrich Schliemann in 1873. With the newly opened James Simon Gallery and the reconstructed Berlin Palace, there is always something new and exciting to experience on Museum Island!
