I've done this hike several times, and the best experiences were during October when the foliage is in full display. But any season is fine. The trail is very suitable for all ages and often filled with adorable puppies.

About one hour into the trail at Ichinokurasawa, you can enter the river trail, which offers plenty of rocks for a rock climbing experience. Note: You will need to get a permit at the trailhead in order to attempt the rock climbing section.

You can climb as far as you feel is safe, but make sure to turn around if it starts to feel dangerous. Those who hike from Ichinokurasawa typically have full gear for rock climbing.
