If you enjoy panoramic views from above and love visiting spots that offer a broad perspective of the landscape, Miradouro da Portelais definitely worth a stop. From here, you can take in the entire southern coastline of Porto Santo, including the island’s famous 9-kilometer golden beach, the marina, and the surrounding volcanic peaks. It’s a great spot to get a sense of the island’s natural layout and admire its unique beauty.

The name “Portela” means “small gate” or “pass,” which makes sense given its elevated location overlooking the landscape. Close by, you’ll find the island’s iconic windmills, adding a touch of history and charm to the area. These windmills, once used to grind grain, are a reminder of Porto Santo’s agricultural past and make for a great photo opportunity.

The best times to visit are early morning or late afternoon when the light is softer, making the views even more beautiful and the temperature more comfortable. Whether you’re here for photography, to take in the scenery, or just for a relaxing moment, Miradouro da Portela offers a calm and picturesque stop on your Porto Santo adventure.
