Kätkävaara is a rocky Lappish hill with in total 8 km long nature trail, which is a really great day trip destination!

At the beginning of the trail, there is a barrier-free nature trail around a pond, a fireplace and a wooden toilet, but along the trail, there are also two other hut fireplaces, caves, gorges, a viewpoint and a lookout tower. I recommend walking the Kätkävaara nature trail clockwise. Therefore, choose the left-hand path from the fireplace on the shore of the pond, which follows the pond for about 70m and then turns right into the forest.

The Cave and Gorge trail is a 1km long separate circular trail, which branches off from the main nature trail a few kilometers after the pond at the steepest part of the hill. It then rejoins the main trail later. The Cave and Gorge trail showcases more than ten caves and gorges in the area. The largest cave is one of the finest I have ever visited in Finland, and it can be found quite quickly from the start of the Cave and Gorge trail behind the magnificent hut fireplace. The Cave and Gorge trail includes a lot of stairs.

The Kätkävaara nature trail 7km + 1km Cave and Gorge trail is a great day trip destination. The whole trail is medium in difficulty but it is good to reserve 3-4 hours for walking ans seeing everything! The trail also includes a lot of information boards and audio stories. I recommend getting acquainted with them, as they were awesome!

Please respect the nature, plants and structures along the trail. There is no waste management on the trail, so please carry your trash back with you.
