Waterfall
Prepare to get completely blown away by one of the most untouched and lush green places out there.
Samothraki is an island in the North Aegean Sea, off the coast of the city of Alexandroupoli. Altough an island, Samothraki is known for its incredible natural pools, created by the countless streams coming down from the mountain, flowing all year long.
They say there are hundreds of "vathra" pools around the island, though if you hike the Fonias gorge, you will get to see and swim in a few of those that are exceptionally pretty.
There are 3 waterfalls and pools where most people choose to sit, usually under a tree and enjoy a dip in the cool waters of the river. Where there is water there is life, and the Nature around is flourishing, with the sounds of insects (the cicadas in the summer) and birds buzzing and creating a beautiful white noise along with the sound of the waterfall.
Make sure you have food with you on the hike as there are no food options around, as well as good hiking shoes with a solid grip, as the rocks can be quite slippery.
The whole place is unlike anything you've seen in Greece...or anywhere!
