A picture-perfect traditional Cycladic church

Message from Stefanos Addimando

Perched right on the edge of the hill is the iconic church of Panagia Skopiani, an archetype of a traditional Cycladic church. That spot used to be a lookout for pirates and invaders back in the day. It's now one of the most spectacular viewpoints on the island, as you can see both the sunset and the sunrise from the big balconies of the church. The islands of Kythnos, Paros, Syros and Tinos can also be seen. If you happen to be on the island on August 14, you should definitely visit, observe and dance at the big paniyiri celebration of the Assumption of Virgin Mary on August 15. The celebration takes places on the 14th, from the afternoon until the morning hours of the 15th.
