The Brocken, or Blocksberg in German, is a special mountain in the German Harz Mountains. It is the highest peak in Northern Germany, and its peak stands at an elevation of 1,141 meters (3,743 feet). Due to its impressive height, it has earned itself quite a reputation. Its unique micro climate resembles that of mountains located at twice the altitude - with snow covering from September to May and mist and fogs shrouding it for up to 300 days a year. To add to its remarkable allure, legends have connected it with witches and devils, which only adds to its mystic atmosphere. To this very day, many people visit the Brocken, eager to witness the unique phenomena called the "Brocken spectre", which occurs when a climber’s shadow is cast onto the fog. This beautiful mountain is also now part of the Harz National Park, and visitors can access the summit via a narrow gauge steam railway.
