Mt. Brennisteinsalda, also known as the Sulphur Wave, is a vibrant rainbow-colored mountain located in Landmannalaugar, Iceland. This moderate hike offers a mix of lava fields, geothermal features, and stunning panoramic views. It is popular to connect the Mt Brennisteinsalda hiking trail with the Bláhnúkur circuit. The duration of this trip is about 4-6 hours but if you just do the Mt Brennistasalda trail, it will take you around 3 hours to get to the peak.

QUICK NOTES:

  • What it is: A popular mountain to hike near Landmannalaugar in the highlands.

  • Best season: Summer.

  • Best time of day: Any but sunrise or sunset for the best light.

  • Nice to know: The highlands can be tricky to navigate in bad weather (especially in low visibility). So make sure you know where you're going and have all the gear you might need.
