Grænadyngja ("Green Shield Volcano") is one of my favourite hiking areas on the Reykjanes peninsula and offers great views over Sogin, the geothermal valley next to it. The trail isn't marked so it can be hard to explain the way to the top but I would park the car here and then start hiking south. For more details, I wrote a blog about some of my favourite hikes in Reykjanes, including Grænadyngja. Just know that you should never have to do anything dangerous.

QUICK NOTES:

  • What it is: A mountain in Reykjanes with great views over a geothermal area.

  • Best season: Summer.

  • Best time of day: Any but sunset up there is beautiful.

  • Nice to know: The trails are not marked so keep your map close by (feel free to use to the blog too).
