Aldeyjarfoss is an incredible natural wonder located in the northern highlands of Iceland. It is a twenty-meter tall waterfall, with basalt columns of various colors found on either side of it. Just know that if you visit during deep winter, the last part of the road leading to it might be inaccessible. You can still walk there but it can take some time (depending on where you need to park your car). Aldeyjarfoss is a fantastic waterfall and one of those lesser seen spots in Iceland.

QUICK NOTES:

  • What it is: An off-the-grid waterfall in North Iceland.

  • Best season: Any, but it can be hard to reach in heavy snow.

  • Best time of day: Any.

  • Nice to know: If you visit during winter, and you need to leave your car behind, make sure you leave it on the opposite site of where the horses happen to be. I'm speaking from experience when I tell you that apparently they like gnawing cars...
