The impressive Zinal Glacier is a must-see for anyone visiting the Valais region in Switzerland. Located at the confluence of three other glaciers, the Zinal glacier ranges in altitude from 2000m to 3450m. In winter, after a two and half hour snowshoe hike, visitors can explore the interior of the glacier, discovering gleaming marble caves formed underneath by streams of water. Those interested in more leisurely pursuits can enjoy the stunning views across the Weisshorn, Momling, and Blanc de Momling glaciers from the Petit Mountet mountain hut or the Lac d’Arpitettaz.
HIKE DETAILS: Start at Zinal, Village de vacances bus stop. In winter, snowshoes are highly recommended.
The out and back hike is 14 km with 500 meter elevation gain.
You will need to follow the partly red partly yellow trail in the valley until you reach the glacier. I outlined the trail on the map :)
Tip: wear warm clothes and bring thermo bottles with hot tea in it. It is cold in the cave.
