The Grosser Mythen mountain is a must-visit destination in Schwyz, Switzerland that offers breathtaking alpine panoramas of the country's heart. From the Rotenfluer gondola, visitors can take a 10-minute ride up to Rotenflue, and then an 80-minute switchback trail to get to the peak of the mountain. It is also home to numerous mountain inns and alpine restaurants where visitors can stop for refreshment or a delicious regional specialty. There are various activities to enjoy such as hiking trails, a guided tour with a game warden, and an evening departure in July and August for an unforgettable experience. So come and explore the beauty and vibrant history of Grosser Mythen for a unique and memorable journey!

HIKE DETAILS:

Start: Brunni in kanton Schwyz. There is a huge parking lot for your car or you can get there by public transportation.

You have two option to do this trail: 1. taking the cable car from Brunni to Holzegg or simply start your hike from Brunni. In my opinion is not necessary, the hike from Brunni is already very beautiful. Not mentioning, you will save some money :)

The hike is out and back, distance is 7.4km with elevation gains of around 800 meters. It is not an easy hike, the entire Grosser Mythen is a huge rock therefore the trail up is narrow but you have chains to help you thru. If you decide to bring children please never take your eyes off them.

One at the top, pat yourself on the shoulder, enjoy the scenery and have a refreshment from Restaurant Grosser Mythen.

Tip: sleep at Holzegg Berggasthaus and the following day hike up to the Mythen before sunrise. I can assure you, it will be worth the effort.

Tip 2: once at the restaurant, try their homemade legendary Nuss und Mandelgipfel (nuts and almond 'croissant') TASTYYY

FunFact: there is a local man Armin, who lives in Brunni and hike the Mythen minimum twice a day. So far he has done it over 5000 of times and he never seems to stop. You might meet him on the way, say hi, he is friendly. :)
