Krönten Hut SAC is the perfect hut for a quick getaway from the crowd. It is situated at the foot of Krönten Mountain (1903m). The hut has two comfortable common rooms and 7 bedrooms with 72 beds.

Kröntenhütte is one of my favourite not well known spot with it's glacier views and huge surrounding mountains. You will feel like you just stepped inside of a fairytale.

HIKE DETAILS:

Start at Erstfeld Trainstation. If you would like to save some km and elevation gains you can call a taxi to drive you up to Bodenberg. (The company called Alpentaxi Uri) If you decide to hike from Erstfeld to Bodenberg is approximately 1 hour hike.

From Bodenberg follow the sign towards Kröntenhütte. The hike takes approx 2,5-3,5 hours one way with an elevation of 910 meter.

TIP: Once you reach the hut enjoy the view but don't immediately leave. Take the extra 5-10 min hike to the hidden Obersee which is a beautiful alpine lake where you can swim.

On the way you can take the same way back or stay overnight at the hut and enjoy the sunset and the delicious dinner far away from the noise.

At the end I ended up trekking about 20 km without booking a taxi.
