The Akureyri Christmas House, or Jólahúsið, is an enchanting shop and festive tourist attraction located in the capital of North Iceland, Akureyri. Inside the shop there are an abundant range of Yuletide trinkets; decorations, food, music, artworks, books, toys, homeware and ornaments all fill its two floors, with goods being both international and local Icelandic handicrafts. Furthermore, to further learn about Iceland’s unique Christmas traditions, visitors can witness a sculpture of its child-eating giantess mother, Gryla, as well as the World’s Largest Advent Calendar with fantastical illustrations from Sunna Björk Hreiðarsdóttir. The grounds also showcase the Apple Shed and Black House with their respective succulent treats. Visit the Christmas Garden for a magical time, filled with a miniature replica of an Icelandic turf church and the wishing Well of Unborn Children.
