Nivatunturi fell located on the border between the municipalities of Savukoski and Pelkosenniemi, has recently had its trail renovated.

I recommend driving through "Loukaksentie", starting from Kaikuranta. It's better road. So avoid the Matalaisentie route. You can leave your car near the trailhead, and the path up the mountain is well-marked and clear. However, it gradually becomes steeper until it reaches the summit, which is quite steep. The round-trip distance is approximately 2.5 kilometers.

At the top of the mountain, you’ll find the old, tilted fire warden’s cabin (funny but not usefull for anything anymore), a new day hut for hikers, an outdoor fireplace, and a wooden toilet. It’s a great spot for a leisurely few-hour day trip, where you can enjoy your packed lunch and take in the scenic views. (The photos were taken on a cloudy day in autumn.)
